The raw beauty of its natural wonders does not fall short of expectation in this popular Nordic destination. Vast waterfalls, basalt columns, and black sand beaches are some distinguishing features of this country’s unique, volcanic terrain. We had the opportunity to snorkel within a fissure’s glacial waters, which was a cool experience in more ways than one. Relaxing in a geothermal spa after a day of volcano-trekking was just another one of the many excursions we enjoyed during our brief Icelandic sojourn. We travelled the southern coast during the “midnight sun” of the summer, but would love to return one day to explore the rest of the country and witness its Northern Lights.
